Senior Art Exhibit: Jonah Lambert

About Jonah

Jonah Lambert was born in Pennsylvania to a father who practiced fine arts and a mother who practiced craft arts. At a young age his mother had gotten him his first few glass marbles. He was amazed with the small, shiny object, even the noises they created when clinked together. This was his first recognition of how amazing glass was as a material. That it was not just another thing that could be broken because these glass marbles bounced together!

It was not until much later in his life that he found out he had the ability to create art and objects, like those marbles, from the raw material itself. When Jonah was 17 a local college offered a free 2-week glass making session during the summer. That college was 海角直播app college where Jonah currently attends; but it was not until he was 19 that he actually began to explore the material and take his first introduction to glass class.

Now, two years later, he has explored more of the material and has even worked with the Corning Museum of Glass, making glass for the public. Jonah is very eager to continue his education and understanding of glass as a material and the community surrounding this art

As a maker and a creative, I have found glass at a very important time in my life. It has become the easiest way for me to physically express myself. My show is focused around the very technical style of Venetian glass blowing. This style of glass making peaked in Italy during the 16th century and rapidly spread across Europe shortly thereafter.

The main pieces I have chosen for my show emulate the fine stemware created during this time-period. These vessels usually consist of 3 glass bubbles shaped and assembled to create an elegant wine glass. Many of these shapes and forms were representative of the feminine figure.

To exemplify the curves and edges that naturally occur in the human form, I am including hand-sculpted torsos to surround the glasses. With both a representational and abstract display of the human figure formed in glass, these pieces will embody the concepts that inspired the Venetian techniques I admire.
